NetP RequirementsOn successful completion of the online course you will have met the 16 hour Ministry of Health requirement to be able to work formally with a NetP graduate.  Your name will be placed on a register of "trained preceptors" as per the MOH requirement for all NetP programmes in New Zealand.
Recognition of Prior Learning

Staff who have completed courses relating to the field of clinical learning and teaching education can apply for recognition of prior learning.

Nurses who have completed the CDHB Preceptor Level One course can be transferred to this new programme using the recognition of prior learning form.  In this case there will be a requirement to complete a number of online modules that cover the content of the previous Preceptor Two course as well as completing the assessment and face to face workshop.

Nurses who have completed both Preceptor One and Two can apply for recognition of prior learning, complete the assessment and workplace assignment/self-directed learning and book onto the workshop.

 Further Information

Reason for Change: All health professionals are required to teach and facilitate learning within their workplace.  This can be with patients/clients, family/whanau, colleagues and students.  This is upheld in the Nursing Council of New Zealand's Scope of Practice for Registered Nurses (NCNZ, 2007) and the Code of Conduct for Nurses Principle 6.7 (NCNZ, 2012).  A review of the CDHB Preceptor courses, DEU workshops, and ARA's Introduction to Clinical Teaching and Learning courses showed we had duplication of content, course aims and objectives.  Over the last year we have combined these three programmes and developed a new programme called Introduction to Clinical Learning and Teaching.

This programme replaces the current Preceptor One and Two.  The current Preceptor Three day is under review and will be restructured accordingly.

If you complete the online learning only, you will meet the training requirements for Health Workforce New Zealand and be able to work with a new graduate nurse.  We strongly recommend to complete your learning that you attend the face to face workshop.  The workshop will consolidate your learning and support your application to practice.  We will be running workshops every month held at the Professional Development Unit, Christchurch Hospital.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to call us at the Professional Development Unit.
