Professional Development Unit (PDU)

​​The Professional Development Unit team are located on 5th Floor West of the  Manawa building - 276 Antigua Street (behind outpatients). Manawa is a collaborative facility including the University of Canterbury, Ara Schools of Nursing, Midwifery and Medical Imaging, and Te Whatu Ora Waitaha Canterbury.

The following Te Whatu Ora teams are also based in the Manawa Building

To visit any of the teams at Manawa - please go to the Ara reception on the  5th floor and sign in to on the iPad in the reception area. You can sign in to see a staff member - or sign in to see the PDU or Professional Development Unit. 

 
There is a PDU/PDRP drop box in the reception area

 
Please note: The Ara reception is staffed by the Ara Support team and not by Te Whatu Ora staff. You must sign in to see one of the Te Whatu Ora teams

 Aim of Professional Development Unit

The aim of the Professional Development Unit (PDU) is to develop and inspire others for greater community health

The Professional Development Unit (PDU) works closely with our strategic partners to deliver a series of professional development opportunities that meet both personal and organisational needs.

The Professional Development Unit team is committed to providing approaches at an individual, unit and organisational level to:

  • develop the capacity, capability and readiness of the nursing and midwifery workforce

  • enable nurses and midwives to progress their professional development

  • assist nurse/midwifery educators, charge nurse/midwife managers and nurse/midwifery managers provide a sense of direction and improved patient outcomes in their units.
