Colposcopy

Colposcopy is a procedure used to assess cervical abnormalities using a colposcope. This is an outpatient procedure. New patients require a 30 minute appointment. Follow-up patients require a 15 minute appointment.

The Colposcopy Department provides colposcopy assessment, treatment of abnormal cervical cells and post-treatment follow up.

Women access Colposcopy services by referrals from:

  • Family Planning Association

  • General Practitioners

  • Sexual Health

  • Independent Nurses

  • Christchurch Women's Prison

  • Transfers from other area

What to Expect

Colposcopy is looking at your cervix through a colposcope. The examination is similar to having a cervical smear test.

You are welcome to bring a support person to your appointment.
