Overview of PDRP Programme 2023
Te Kāhui Kōkiri Mātanga Professional Development and Recognition Programme (PDRP) is a competency based framework for nurses, which has been developed co-operatively between the Canterbury District Health Board, West Coast District Health Board and NZNO Representatives to achieve the following purposes:
To advance professional development in nursing;
To support nurses in demonstrating competency to the Nursing Council of New Zealand; and
To fulfil obligations negotiated under the NZNO Nurses MECA.
This programme aims to promote and reward nursing expertise and recognise the contribution of nurses to quality patient health outcomes.

Providing a framework for on-going education and learning
Assisting in retaining nurses in practice
Meets the requirement for competence based practising certificates
Exemption from NCNZ recertification audit
Nurses covered by NZNO Nurses MECA may receive financial renumeration at Proficient, Accomplished/Expert Levels.

How do I know which level to apply for?
Patricia Benner (1984) proposed that skill development evolves through five levels of proficiency: Novice, advanced beginner, competent, proficient and expert. Progression can only occur or be maintained if the competency indicators for the level are consistently being met.
The Competent Registered/Enrolled Nurse
PDRP Application Level
HERE
This is the entry level to the PDRP programme for those staff already in clinical practice. Competent level can be achieved through successful completion of:
NETP - Nurse entry to Practice programme (mandatory portfolio completion by end of programme)
NESP - Nursing Entry Specialist Practice programme (mandatory portfolio completion by end of programme)
ENSIPP - Enrolled Nurse Support into Practice programme (mandatory portfolio completion by end of the programme)
Or, if a practising registered nurses chooses to apply at this level
The Competent Enrolled Nurse
PDRP Application Level
HERE
This is the entry level to the PDRP programme for enrolled nurses already in clinical practice. Competent level can be achieved through successful completion of a portfolio.
