Overview
The Professional Development and Recognition Programme (PDRP) framework and criteria have been developed co-operatively by Canterbury District Health Board, West Coast District Health Board and NZNO Representatives to achieve the following purposes:
- To advance professional development in nursing;
- To support nurses in demonstrating competency to the Nursing Council of New Zealand; and
- To fulfil obligations negotiated under the NZNO Nurses MECA.
This programme aims to promote and reward nursing expertise and recognise the contribution of nurses to quality patient health outcomes.

Benefits Of Participating in PDRP
- Exemption from NCNZ recertification audit
- Nurses covered by NZNO Nurses MECA can also receive financial rewards at Proficent, Accomplished/Expert Levels
- Senior Nurses choosing to participate on the programme will not receive any financial reward however will be exempt from recertification audit.
The Competent Registered Nurse
PDRP Application Level
HERE
This is the entry level to the PDRP programme for those staff already in clinical practice. Competent level can be achieved through successful completion of:
- NetP Programme (mandatory portfolio completion by end of programme)
- Specialty Entry Mental Health Programme (mandatory portfolio completion by end of programme)
- Or, if a practising registered nurses chooses to apply at this level
The Competent Enrolled Nurse
PDRP Application Level
HERE
This is the entry level to the PDRP programme for enrolled nurses already in clinical practice. Competent level can be achieved through successful completion of a portfolio.
The Proficient Registered/Enrolled Nurse
PDRP Application Level
HERE
A nurse achieving Proficient level will receive an allowance (as per organisation) as long as he/she maintains the level of practice.

The Expert/Accomplished Nurse

A nurse achieving Expert/Accomplished level will receive an allowance (as per organisation) as long as he/she maintains the level of practice.
